Tetanus Time!!

Okay gardening friends. I was just outside pruning away when the shears slipped and landed on my big right toe. Did I have flip flops on, well of course, stupid I know. As many times as I have cut myself in the yard not once have I ever thought right away, "I wonder if I need a tetanus shot?" I come in the house, wash it with soap and water, rinse it with peroxide, put antibiotic cream on it and cover it with a band aid. Sit down at the computer to regain my composure and click on http://muddybootdreams.blogspot.com/ . How's that for confirmation?

Sorry, I forgot to add I do have an appointment for a Tetanus shot this afternoon!!

Hi Darla, it sounds like you did all the right things. Tetanus shots last for ten years, have you had one within that time? Were the shears rusty? Watch for a fever.

Girl, I think the good Lord above was definitely answering you. I read Muddy Boots post. Glad to hear you made an appointment.

That's pretty good confirmation. I hope you're off to see the doctor today. I had a great-great grandmother die from a rose thorn that eventually caused blood poisoning. Grab a couple of garden magazines, prop your foot up and soon you'll be better.

Hi Darla,
Good for you for getting the shot! I've been getting one every ten years for a long time. It just happened that I started in 1980 so it's easy to remember when it's due.
You get the same things that I would have done at first.

I need to get mine too - 12 years since last shot. Tetanus is luckily very, very rare. Only about 45 people in USA gets a tetanus infection every year and 5 of these die. But better safe than sorry!

I would have never thought about such a thing! Thanks Darla!

Good thing you are getting your tetanus shot. Hope your toe is okay. Maybe it was a sign that you read that post right after, it's probably good for all of us gardeners to be caught up on our tetanus vaccines since we are often out with sharp tools right in the dirt.

Yes, I just read everyone needs tetanus shots, especially gardeners. I can't tell you how many times I've cut my hands on broken glass in my garden. I am glad you are getting one and hopefully your foot heals fast.

Please be careful Darla. This kind of thing happens to be frequently. Good idea with the tetanus shot, can never be too careful.

Darla, I could not believe this when I read it. I am so glad that you got an appt. with doctor. I am glad that you are o.k.- Hope you are not too sore. By the way, your package was mailed yesterday. I hope you like it.

Hi Darla ~ saw your post at Jen's ... and should have mentioned that I'm up to date with my Tetanus because of a gardening accident also ... in a rush to tidy my perennials, I diagonally pruned off the tip of my left index finger that now looks like a pencil :(

oh my darla you have had an interesting week. hope you heal quickly.

Good for you Darla. Can't be too careful with cuts out in the garden. There are all sorts of bugs and virius in the dirt and mulch. Take care and do keep that foot up as much as possible.

Thanks for reminding ME. With horses I have to stay on top of this also.

It's better to be safe, right? I had the shot two years ago. Talked to my doctor about the disease. He has only seen one case in his many years of practice. An older man was scratched up by some raspberry thorns. The man died. So, it's rare but what an awful way to go.

Thanks Darla for helping get the word out. Lockjaw is such a preventable disease, I am glad that people are checking when they had their last shot.

Some people don't like needles, some don't like snakes, LOL and some of us don't like spiders.... but I can take it.

I really don't have any problem with pictures, and please don't not post your spider pictures because of me. The snake free blog post was more of a fun post than anything else.

I can scroll really fast, when it comes to spider pics. Ha.

How is the toe doing today? That was a close call.

Ouch! I just went over and read her post. I can't think of the last time I had one. Can't think of the last time I cut myself badly either. You be careful!

We got tetanus shots to go on a mission trip...6 months later Jimmy went to the doctor and the doctor told him it had been a while since he had a tetanus shot and gave him another one. Boy, was Jimmy mad at the doctor when he came home and I told him he had just had one.
