Interesting Friday

I know some of you say to leave the Bluebird house alone until the end of the summer. My hubby read that you should clean out the house after the babies have left because of mites and bacteria that would cause the birds to not return. So we (he) cleaned the house and found one left behind. It was sad, but obvious this birdie was not meant to be.
I sure can see how the bugs and bacteria would love to make this a home, it was yucky!

He gave it a good spraying out, left it open to dry and now we wait and see.

Random flower shots and a short story.

Besides constantly on the lookout for snakes, skinks, the neighbor's mean dog and foxes, now we are on Coyote patrol!
Yep! You read correctly...............a Coyote that is very comfortable around this neighborhood.
He will not 'shoo' off. Yesterday morning he was just standing there staring at me, I stomped my feet, clapped my hands and was yelling the 'get from here' that we all say when we want a stray to go away. He did not 'get' so I got, got back in the house.
Sweet Ms. Doris came over to give me some pass along plants and she said the Coyote growled at her and killed a raccoon in her yard. This is a little scary to me.
We apparently have no one that will help us trap the Coyote without a steep fee......minimum 100 bucks.
So, guns are loaded! Ms. Doris, you did tell your husband to load his gun, correct?
Sad, but true....Coyotes have been known to attack humans.

So, here's to gardening with a shovel in my hand!!

Darla: You would think animal contro; would worry about a coyote that was that brave, rabies and all. Those were some neat flower pictures.

Oh my gosh Darla, I didn't know we had coyotes around here! Please be careful. I have a lot of woods behind my house and I thought I'd seen every critter there was, but no coyotes!

Just came by to see your pretty flowers....but a coyote? Wow~ that is a little scary.

Have a great weekend and be careful! J

It's unusual that a coyote would be that brave. They're usually really skiddish.
Your post is beautiful. Love the bluebird nest. Hope you have another family to occupy that house this year.

Good luck on the coyote hunting! They are even in major cities like Toronto. Lovely petunia photo. Think your DH is right to clean out the bluebird box.

You did the right thing in cleaning the bluebird house. I often find a baby bluebird will not make it out. I am not sure why. Sometimes I catch it in time and take it out. The parents come and take over and the baby miraculously begins to fly. I recently found a dead female bluebird in my bluebird house. Sparrows got her. They are taking over here which is bad. But now that the house is cleaned-5 bluebird eggs in it! You'll get a pair soon too.

That coyote is interesting. He is hungry obviously but scary too. Do keep that shovel nearby in case you must defend yourself. I hope it does not come to that. I wonder why animal control will not trap it? Or at least loan you all a cage to do so on your own.

Darla...The larkspur photo is gorgeous! Such a beautiful water color photo! So sorry about the coyote...we have them, too and people need to keep their small pets inside. Very aggravating isn't it! gail

Be careful out there Darla!

We usually clean out our birdhouse too! Right now we got some babies in there.

Be careful Darla, I can't imagine having to garden with one eye out for coyotes!!! That is some scary stuff. Good job to hubby on cleaning out your bluebird box, they'll appreciate a nice tidy home. :)

I would have a shovel in one hand and something else in the other. It's sad when you have to watch you back in your own yard.

I hope the coyote stays away! I love all your flower pictures, especially the one with the phlox and the white flowers.

Such gorgeous blooms. They make me sigh and wish it was warm enough here for them. We have coyotes here in the hills too. None have come near the house that I have seen but my gun is always loaded and I know how to shoot it. They can be shot up here. I will have so many people mad at me for that statement but the farmers are starting to have problems with them. Your cleome is so pretty and the larkspur is such a dreamy color.Have a great weekend.

Great shots - I love that last photo. Your flowers are always so beautiful! Be careful with that coyote!!

Oh geesh - a coyote would certainly freak me out!

I was looking at all the bird poop and it reminded me of a story on the news the other night up here - some women spread it on their face as a treatment. You could have sold it! haha!

Thanks so much for voting for my girlies - crossing my fingers!

Darla, you better be careful. That would scare me to death. I know we have them around but they haven't come close enough for me to see them, thank goodness. Please be careful. By the way, we are in Helen ga. and I brought one of your candles with me and it smells so wonderful in my condo. Thank you so much.

Darla~~ I wonder if you can get a hold of a tazer or even a can of mace or pepper spray. Keep it handy and if you're feeling threatened let him have it. That way he'll get the message and won't have to die.

The flowers are cheery as usual. It always puts a smile on my face to see them.

I love the pictures, but not the last part of the story. I have been looking out for snakes here, but not a Coyote. I hope he ends up leaving you alone.

After reading about your coyote I may not complain so much about our pigeons!

Too bad about your baby bluebird - but nice that you gave your birdhouse a good cleaning. That is surprising about that coyote being that bold - they are typically shy animals and if they act that aggressive toward humans it may be sick and/or starving. Do you have a local dept of natural resources you can call?

Sad about the baby bluebird, and scary about the coyote. Take care, maybe it will just move on.

Darla, I'm afraid for you. That is awfully scary. Sounds like the coyote is sick.

Your blooms are very pretty.

I would be concerned about rabies especially since he doesn't scare off. They tend to hunt in the night, early morning, evening and sometimes on gray days. Be very careful. Do you have animal control with your city? Most towns do. Especially since it may be rabid given how it is behaving.

Hi Darla, oh my goodness, that is quite scary! We are afraid of raccoons here, so the thought of a murder in our backyard is disconcerting to say the least. I was going to suggest at least a pellet of bb gun, if you know how to use one. I do not, we have no guns and never have, but this is serious stuff. May you never have to swing that shovel.

My goodness Darla, I've just caught up with your coyote episode. Let's hope he moves on. Will he be finding food in your neighbourhood?
Your flowers are so beautiful already.

We have coyotes too, but they don't approach us. Just hear them late at night. Be careful, he could have rabies if he doesn't spook at all.

I have also read you should clean out the box after each set of babies. Sometimes we don't catch it in time and there are new eggs.

My Killdeer had one egg to not hatch and she left it there. I now have that egg hoping it will petrify, they are such pretty eggs.

Lovely flowers, as usual.
