Larkspur and Kaleidoscope Four O'clock

I planted these Larkspur in December not knowing what would happen. I have been very pleased with the blooms. Although I may have needed to stake them up. Still a lot more blooms to open. Love the purple and white on this one.
The deep purple is pretty.
Not real found of this lighter purple.Like the pink
This white with a touch of pink/peachy is pretty too.
I am so loving the Kaleidoscope Four O'clocks. So far only the pink and white have opened.
Just wanted to share a couple of new to me flowers that I started from seed. There are plenty more to come!

Beautiful flowers. I'm not familiar with 4 o'clocks but have seen them mentioned a lot. I think I may need one for my gardens.

I have 4 o'clocks...yellow...white and pink...they are heirloom plants you can pass from generation to generation....mine came from a great aunt..

Four o'clocks are such a reliable reseeding annual in my garden. They can be a bit weedy but I always let a few stay. :) Those Lupines look more like Larkspur to me. Very pretty!

Wonderful pictures of your flowers! I remember us having 4 o'clocks when I was a kid at home. Interesting that they open up about 4:00 P.M.

perennialgardener: You are so right! I changed it. Thank you. I planted lupine, larkspur and foxglove for the first time this year....

Yea - I know some more flowers now! All beautiful. I really need to learn more!

How long ago did you start your lupine seeds? Did you plant them out in December or start them at that time? Your 4 o'clocks are pretty. I have some too. But the flowers never open at 4 o'clock. I like to call them my 7 o'clocks.

I love that larkspur. I tried it for the first time and it reseeded, you should have lots again next year! The 4 o'clocks are really pretty too. I found a lupine bud on one of my plants, they have a really sweet scent.

Your blog always makes me want to plant flowers... what beautiful plants. They remind me of snapdragons a bit - LOL. Maybe one day I'll successfully grow a flower that lives more than a couple of weeks at our house.

Girl you have got it going on there in Florida. My mom gave me some 4 o'clocks but mine are yellow. And the flower does open around that time each day. I could not believe the huge root. Had to dig a good size hole for it.
Can't wait to see more Darla. Becca

I LOVE larkspur, but ours haven't come up yet. *sigh* Be careful with those 4 O'clocks. I've been trying to ger rid of the ones I planted for 14 years now and they are still coming up. LOL--Randy

Now I have some serious plant envy! I really wanted some larkspur blooms here but none have shown their sweet faces. What's the secret? I thought my problem was it's too hot but you are hotter than me in Florida!

This is my first time trying Larkspur too. Mine are just baby seedlings, although they appear to have survived transplanting. I hope they look half as good as yours. They are just lovely.

The four o'clocks are the kind my mother always has. Last year I had four o'clocks, mixed colors on on plant, but not like these.

I love four o'clocks...and miss them. For some reason I can't get them started here! Their fragrance is delicious. I found seeds of a variety with lime colored foliage and magenta flowers! You have the magic garden touch with seeds Darla! gail

Hi Darla~~ I've always been fond of both larkspur and 4 o'clock. Back when it was the vogue thing to do, i would dry my larkspur for winter arrangements. The pinks were my favorite.

The 4 o'clocks are probably hardy in your Zone. Am I right?

Starting from seed makes you feel like such a success, doesn't it? Loving your multi colored 4oclock. Your larkspurs blooms are so thick! I want to start these in my mom's 'wild' patch. We think of it each spring:)

Hi Darla, you really have the magic touch with those larkspur! I love them all and always am unsure about when to plant the seeds. One year January was perfect. One year, September. So it goes. :-)
