This and That Thursday..

My first Rose of Sharon bloom of the season.... What in the world is on my Hyacinth Bean Vine?

I find something new every few days in this wildflower mixture that I planted in Dec.

Pink Bachelor Button

Thought this was bright and sunny.
Forget Me Nots and ?
The Lacecape Hydrangea from Ms. Doris is beautiful.

...Monarda didyma L. Scarlet Beebalm is beginning to bloom.

We don't only grow flowers. Here are a few food items that we are working on. The others are not post worthy quite yet.

Cherry Tomatoes

Our Crookneck Squash is loaded with blooms. We have them planted in large containers.

Update on the Grapefruit for Patsy.

A few things from our backwoods.

Stinging Nettle grows all over the place. When you touch it with your bare skin you will get a terrible sting which can be very painful and itchy. The stinging sensation is caused by formic acid which covers the tiny hairs of the plant. It has been used as a medicine in Europe for over 2,ooo years.
Elephant Ear bud. Ferns

Here's the mom to the eggs I posted yesterday. House Wren we believe.

Can anyone help me with the ID of this plant. If so, what are the growing conditions of it?

I hope you enjoyed my This and That Thursday!

What an interesting garden; you'll soon have a delicious salad with fresh flowers on your table.

Now, about that UGLY bug... ewwww.

I remember the nasty stinging nettle from my early years of living in Texas. That is an ouchee plant especially if you land in it by accident while riding a bike with no hands & your eyes closed....lol. Your wildflower mixture is very pretty, especially the yellow & white daisy like bloom. Wish I could help you with the id, it looks similar to my Heuchera 'Purple Palace'. :)

As beautiful as everything is looking I still want to know what that weird bug is! I don't think I've spotted one of those yet! Ick!

Thank you for the update on the grapefruit, they are growing. Did you know that the other names for the rose of sharon is the Confederate rose or the cotton rose it is from the mallow family.

Everything looks so beautiful Darla, I love your Rose Of Sharon - it looks like my Minerva.
I have many, not so fond, memories of stinging nettle. Been there a few times growing up. ;-)

Thanks for the tour of your garden. I wish I could see it in person -- you have so many beautiful and fascinating plants.

There are 350 species of Ladybird Beetles (commonly known as Ladybugs) in America. Might be one of the 350.

No idea on the plant.

You've got a beetle... lol, helpful? ha!

The white blossoms with the forget me nots I think are Nemesia. We have purple ones now - see my mom's recent post, but in the past we've had whites. Is it quite fragrant? If so, I'd say definitely Nemesia.

Too bad you've got the stinging nettle in the yard. We found some in ours recently too. Your rose of sharon is gorgeous :) I like that flower.

hmmm... my word verification is 'yards'. can you believe it?

How are you feeling, Girlie???? Hope you are better.

Your garden is fabulous. I love FERNS.. I've had them in hanging baskets before--but I can't keep them alive during the winter.

Hugs,
Betsy

Sorry, can't help you with the bug or the plant. If you find out their identity, be sure to let us know.
And I remember nettle from growing up in WV. Nasty stuff!
Thanks for letting me know how your garden is growing, too. Looks great. And ahead of mine. It's so neat seeing where yours starts and then moves up the US to when the northerners get started.

Wow, wht a bug! I would have the same vine if my dog hadn't ate the seedling of the only seed I had, lol. The Rose of Sharon looks gorgeous, how long do they bloom down here. In KY it is like July or August to firsts frost in October.

Hi Darla, I wonder what illness they treat with stinging nettle. Nasty stuff!

That beetle is unusual. I hope someone posts a name for it.

Your flowers are wonderful. So much blooming all at once.
