The Weekend...

I do hope everyone had a great weekend. Because of the pulled pectoral muscle and the Costochondritis, inflammation of the chest wall, my weekend was mainly watching everyone else work. Costochondritis is pain and tenderness in the locations where your ribs attach to your breastbone, most often occurs in women over 40.......ain't age grand! Beats the alternative though!
I do have to say, it is one of the most painful things I have ever dealt with. More painful than harmful.
My Caladium is blooming.

I love how the garlic blooms emerge from the little sack.

It was a strange feeling watching my son do one of my favorite jobs, push mowing around the flower beds. See the hill? That's one of the reasons I'm having to rest.......

How was your weekend?

Hi Darla, Sorry about your problem! I had that at one time and it's not pleasant! Take care and just make pictures of your flowers and let someone else do the work. You deserve a good rest!!!

Darla,
Take care of your self and don't over do it when you start to feel better! Hope the pain eases up some soon.--Randy

It must be hard to watch. It's nice that you have a family that pitches in to help though. That hill does look like a hard one!
Hope you heal up soon.

Hi Darla, hope you feel better. You don't realize until something like this happens how all the muscles are connected. You find you can't get out of bed or even roll over without using your chest muscles.

You rest and get better. The extra work up the hill can never be bad for big sons.

Hoping that you are fully recovered soon.

At least you can still take photos.

I'm sorry you are in such pain.. I know how frustrating it must be for you--seeing everyone else do the jobs you do (and wish you were doing).... Just do what the doctor says... And do something I am not good at: be patient!!!!! ha

We had a good weekend ---company on Saturday and just resting and catching up on Sunday!!!! Very nice!!

Have a great Monday and be QUIET and STILL...
Hugs,
Betsy

I spent Sunday afternoon mowing the grass along a hill much like yours. I can see why you need the rest with a hill like that. It would just aggravate the inflammation. I hope you get to feeling better!

So sorry about your pulled muscles and your chest. That sure is a steep hill to be mowing and hard to come up with a push mower. OOOHH. I had a good weekend. Very sore today all over. The veggie garden was a lot of work.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. Becca

The onion looks so weird!!! That hill is probably what did you in!!! You better rest. If it is raining, then be lazy and take a nap and listen to it rain

I hope you are soon feeling better and can get back to some of your favorite garden activities. Perhaps your son will continue to mow that hill for a while.

I'm so sorry about your hurt muscles. I know how frustrating it can be to want to lift or dig and not be able to. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. I'll even weed.

Hope you are feeling better real soon. Nothing worse than wanting to get outside and do something and knowing you can't or if you do you'll suffer for it.

Thanks everyone for the get out of pain wishes. It stinks just walking around though. I am not good at being still for very long. At least it's not serious!

Darla: What neat flower photos. I think you need a self propelled mower from the looks of that hill.

Hi Darla, I have not been on for a while I have so much to do. Sorry to read you are not feeling well you will just have to take it easy for a while and let others do the hard work. Your gardens are a kaleidescope of colour and looking fantastic so sit awhile and enjoy!

Poor Darla! You take it easy & let your family help you in the garden. That's quite a hill to have to push that mower up. All your flowers look lovely. :)

Hi Darla, man, I can certainly see why you could not be mowing. I remember well the pain of that injury. For me, it was rolling over in bed while asleep and forgetting how much it hurt. Had to curl up into a ball until it subsided. I still do not flip over in bed, but very very carefully adjust positions. At least you had some nice weather and plenty of blooms to speed your recovery. Get well soon.

I hope you are better soon...bet your son hopes so too. :)

I transplanted some yellow garlic like the white you have pictured here, but it has failed to do anything. This spring I saw the green stems, but it appeared the cutting worm came by and cut it down. Not close to anything Jimmy would be at, so that was NOT a reference to him.

Well that stinks! I hope you get better. Your blooms are spectacular and I love your garden. That hill looks scary. My grandfather use to tie a rope to his lawnmower and haul it up the hill by a pulley system. It was rather fun to watch.

I wouldn't trust the pulley system around my plants though huh?

I'm sorry for your hurting, glad you know what it is, and what to do. Sounds VERY painful. Watching others work is not too bad a thing to do every now and then:)

Darla, I hope you feel better soon. I remember one time when I was pregnant and had to go on bed rest for the last several weeks. I watched strangers do my jobs in and outside my home. I hated it. So I kind of know how you feel but you better take it easy for now. You are in my prayers.

Darla, I have had costochondritis too. It took several months to get a correct diagnosis and the "cure" was anti-inflammatory medicine and rest. HOW does a gardener rest? You can't :) So here are some tips for you: First find a chiropracter that knows how to adjust your spine for costchondiritis. This will start you on the road to recovery fast. Next, don't slouch or slump over ( which I had to learn not to do)- that aggravates it. Sleep on your back (I had to learn to do that too). And do stretching exercises several times a day where you hold your arms above your head and stretch up as far as possible making sure to move your ribcage up too. Now if I twist wrong and it starts hurting, I go back to the chiro and he adjusts my back and I'm all better:)But when it is time to mow, tell your son you are in pain and let him do it:)
