Rose moss as a ground cover..
The Catalpa Sphinx Moth is a common hawk or sphinx moth--
it's the caterpillar stage that is most often encountered and best known. The caterpillars have long been valued for fish bait---references to their collection by fishermen date back at least to the 1870's.
Catalpa Tree is the only host plant. These moths mostly fly at dusk or night and are not commonly seen.
Ms. Sandra is waiting to collect these for her Mother's Day Fishing Trip!
We call this her "Mother's Tree" because her mom planted it.

This is the bloom getting ready to open. Anyone know the correct name?

My granddaddy used to use those catalpa worms for fish bait! I had not thought about them for years. All of the pictures are beautiful and those eyes on the dog are amazing!
All of these are great pictures! Love your header!
What a nice visit! That bloom is really neat. No idea what it is.
Don't know the name of her 'Mother's Plant', have one in a pot, not hardy in TN. Did not know it blooms. If I treated mine better it might bloom for me. Not sure how it has survived me for 15 years.

Thanks for the tour of Ms. Sandra's. I enjoyed seeing your back yard in bloom on an earlier post as well.
I wanted to drop by and tell you how funny your comment on Gail's post was--"Phlox envy":) I've had it ever since I've seen all the photos of the PPPP. But judging from your photos you have some beautiful phlox of your own!
Your yard certainly is alive. I guess I should get out in mine and stop being lazy. :-)
I think the Momma plant is a Tree philodendron.
I agree with Wicked on this one, a Philodenfron is the mystery plant to be more exact, Split-Leaf Philodendron.
