Last Day of April 2009

After fretting through the few freezes that we had here in North Florida at the end of the winter, I can hardly believe it's already the last day of April. Things are sure filling in fast around here.
Here's the Morning Glory that everyone keeps warning me about. I know what a garden hog they can be, I'll worry with that later. For now, I sure am enjoying the show.
Cosmos are beginning to join the garden show.

Nasturtium-Dwarf Alaska Mixed Colors
Nasturtium- Whirlybird Mix

Nasturtium- Empress of India
My wheelbarrow has filled in more since I posted it a few days ago.
AHH, the Gerberas! Still have two more colors to open.

I still for the life of me cannot remember where or when I purchased this red Verbena...I've had it several years and now it's popping up all over. (which I don't mind at all)
My first Larkspur bloom

Pink Wave Petunia, Marigold and Alyssum sprinkled in.
I missed the first Daylily bloom of the season.......here's the second one though. These have the sweetest scent.

I do hope this last day of April 2009 is finding your gardens filling in and getting ready to BURST with color for May!!

I think I like the red Verbena the best out of these pictures Darla! I'm still waiting on my daylilies to bloom.

Hi Darla, things are looking good in your garden. Even though I live far away, I recognize a lot of your plants. My nasturtiums are exactly at the same stage as yours (amazing), so are my cosmos. The morning glories, too. And I love Gerberas. You have a very nice mix of stuff.

I have the same morning glory, Grandpa Ott, growing on my porch railing. Waiting to see if it comes up this year or if I have to replace it.

Love you wheelbarrow!

Darla - I would so love to visit your very colorful yard. It is just beautiful. The morning glory is awesome and I agree it is too pretty to worry about it hogging your area. Gerber daisy's are a favorite of mine and can you believe I have none right now. I must change that. You sure do have a lot going on. Oh and the wheelbarrow has filled in nicely. Show a picture of just where the wheelbarrow sits in the yard. (If you already posted one I missed it.) Have a good day... Becca

These are gorgeous flowers! And way up north here in Alberta, Canada we haven't even got leaves on the trees yet, never mind flowers in bloom. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Darla~~ Yes I'm hoping the April showers prove their worth and usher in a May floral extravaganza. Or at least a few flowers I can see before the slugs eat them.

You're right. Home Depot is really not that bad. I hope you can find Darla Diascia down in your neck of the woods. It would definitely be hardy for you.

Love the marbled foliage of the nasturtium. Isn't that funny about the Verbena? I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who forgets such things. In fact a friend of mine has a little garden art sign that says: "I don't remember planting this." Maybe we should get ourselves a few. If I could remember where she got it. :)

As for Grandpa Ott. The flowers are stupendous. I absolutely adore them. The plant is nearly impossible to deadhead but if the seed pods were clipped before they dropped their progeny, it would save many a headache trying to rid the garden of its impending sea of seedlings. Such a dilemma. Cheers.

Beautiful Morning Glory! I have not had luck with them...planted one last year but did not get any blooms...I'm wondering if it did not receive enough sunlight as it was in morning shade?

What a green thumb you have - and yellow, and pink and... :-) Beautiful flowers. I do love the morning glories but can't stand how they grow. I pulled mine up after the first real growth many years ago and they're still coming back... EVERYWHERE! One lazy year they'd entertwined all through my rose bushes before I knew it. Beautiful to look at though. :-)

Your garden is really popping with color Darla. I can't believe it is the last day of April already. Summer will be here before we know it. I'm enjoying the cooler temps we've had for the past 2 days. I know it won't last though. ;)

I have not been online for a few days, your full sun garden is really filling out with lots of colour. Beautiful photos as usual!

Beautiful Darla...I like Morning Glory also. You can control it. It will look nice on your trellis.

The Larkspur is so pretty... I haven't seen it before. The Verbana and Gerberas are both neat.. Love all of those colors.

I'm extremely busy now--getting ready to leave on vacation on Sat. morning. If I don't comment as much, please forgive me.

Hugs,
Betsy

Gorgeous!! I just bought a few flowers of my own yesterday. I figure if I can grow veggies I can grow flowers too, right? :)

I love the larkspurs. I bought some blue delphiniums, and I think they will look similar...

Very pretty yard, as usual. I noticed I have some daylily buds showing fairly good, so will have them soon.

Hi Darla, I love you of your flowers, you have all my favorites. The morning glories are allowed here too, that blue color with the white center is simply superb! The seedlings are easily pulled for they are quite distinct and easy to identify. Love the nastursius too, even just the leaves are wonderful.
