"What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. They are but trifles scattered along life's pathway, but the good they do is inconceivable." ---Joseph Addison

Thanks for stopping by from Kelli's today and for your comments. The milk bottle collection began as a "country accent" for decorating. I picked up a couple here & there and one day, my Hub suggested we collect from Colorado, since that's where we were living at the time.

The next thing we know, we are hitting antique shops, scrounging for Colorado Dairies and "go-withs" (these are promotional items that the dairies used to advertise on, cake servers, ashtrays, matchbooks, rulers and so on). We are good friends with the Premier Colorado Dairy collector, our collection is probably #2 or 3 in the country, for the state of Colorado.

The bottles have an interesting history considering where some of them have been found. Some have been sitting in barns, basements, have been dug from privies, long since been out of use. There are amethyst colored bottles, dark brown, embossed (pre 1930's), pyroglazed, nursery rhyme, war slogans, tin top closures and the list goes on and on. Milk was delivered long ago and the dairies used these bottles for advertizing and promotion. We have some gorgeous bottles and there are many interesting stories. For example, the La Veta Cheese Company out of La Veta, Colorado wasn't a dairy at all but a money laundering front for the mafia! One of our bottles was found when someone was remodeling and knocked out a wall. There they found a newspaper from the 1930's and this 1/2 pint bottle that someone must've been drinking from when they were building the house and then it was drywalled over!

Fascinating stuff! I will highlight more of our collection in the S&T weeks to come. Thanks for asking!

Have a lovely weekend!

I love this quote. A smile goes a long way. At work, I try to smile at all my customers. I am hopeful that if someone is having a bad day maybe that might help, a little anyway.
