It Was A Super Sunday!

Saturday morning we packed the girls up and sent them on a 9 day vacation with their Grandparents..............YIPPEE! That means that hubby and I get to do what we want when we want without stopping to make sure everyone is accounted for, fed, cleaned, homework done and the bickering down to a minimum.
After a trip to the grocery store and Lowes, where we picked up some tomato plants, a couple more loropetulam, some african marigolds, begonias, some other shrub I can't remember right now, supertunias and Guara we came home and got to work.
This is the Guara Guara lindheimeri - a heat tolerant perennial, fast growth rate, size 3 x 3 and cold hardy 0 to 10.
Have any of you grown this before? It's new to me.
I posted this crazy wild onion yesterday, I have never seen wild onions do this. What is it doing?
Thanks to http://flowergardengirl.wordpress.com/ I finally found Proven Winners Supertunia Raspberry Blast!

I can't wait for this hanging basket to over flow with these beautiful flowers!
My geraniums are starting to bloom. It's more of a peachy pink color than I picked up with the camera.
African Marigold
My Salvia "Hot Lips" is starting to bloom, haven't seen the red and white together on a bloom although there are seperate red and white blooms so far.
and the Bluebirds have been very diligent taking care of their new home!
To finish our Super Sunday my husband boiled crab legs, grilled steak with mushrooms and onions and cooked some mashed potatoes. Hope your Sunday was Super too! (Now I'm off to mow the lawn)

What fun! Enjoy your 'alone' time:) The craziness will return all too soon! My Whirling Butterflies is reliable, floppier in the shade, more upright in the sun, I cut mine back in the summer for a fresh fall flush (but you don't have to). Your wild onion is full of babies, and will get heavy, topple over and root, I have an cultivated walking onion that does the same thing. Ah, spring, what a lovely thing!! Have a great week Darla!

That was definitely a super Sunday with lots of together time for hubby and you, also needed. I planted snapdragon seeds on Sat as they will not be going out over here for another few weeks.

Oh Goodie!! You found the raspberry blast. That is perfect. Thank you for the link back.

I have grown Gaura many times and have three clumps right now. There are a lot of different varieties. Mine are Karla Leigh from PW. They bloom all summer long and add whimsy to my containers.

Enjoy yourselves with all this extra time on you hands. That dinner sounded so good. Now I can't get crab legs out of my mind. I want some.

The blue bird is so pretty, we have bluejays and they aren't very nice, love to torment dogs and cats, will peck them if given the chance. We are basically empty nesters now, my daughter lives (should I say sleeps and showers) at home, we don't get to spend much time with her. When they are all at home you wish for a break, when they are gone you wish they were home.

Okay Girlie---Besides all of that yard work which you love, you and hubby need to find some 'special' time JUST for each other this week... Mama says!!!!!

That intimate time is JUST as important as having a pretty yard!!!!! Mama says!!!!!

Let me hear about a romantic evening with a candlelight dinner, or a 'date' to go out to dinner, etc.... Okay????

Remember--Mama Says!!!! ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy

Darla: Have a ball while you are able to have a great time. The menu sounds just delicious.

I'm feeling a lot better and am able to do all the exercises with little problems.

Sounds like you did what I did last Friday, going around getting plants. I too got some African Marigolds and love them. I got the golden yellow ones with the huge blooms. Do you now if it is true that Marigolds keep mosqitoes(sp) away?

Darla...It sounds like you've had a wonderful time of it! I do grow Gaura and love it! Just give it good drainage and it will love you! I planted mine by Mexican Feather Grass. It can be planted in the middle of a bed and won't block views of ther plants...since the flower is up high...mine is a tall variety. Have a fun week! gail

Hi Darla, what a treat to have some alone time. I see you put it to the best possible use, gardening! We have the white gaura, Whirling Butterflies and it is a fabulous wonderful large plant. It has given us some babies too, but not too many. I don't know about the pink ones, though. Hooray for crab legs! :-)

I really like those African Marigolds! Wonder if they'd grow in Michigan! And sounds like an awesome meal! I just made crab legs the other night~!

You'll enjoy the guara. It's a low-care, drought-tolerant plant that blooms all summer long. The only catch is it gets floppy if it has too much shade, and it tends to get a lot of aphids on the stems. I'd always just hose them off until they stopped coming back, but they'd always return eventually. No matter. The flowers and airy structure of the plant made up for those flaws.
